Larry's thoughts on this should be required reading (and 
understanding)....I'd posit that religion's fear of science doesn't 
necessarily stem from the misunderstanding that science destroys God. As 
we've said repeatedly, it makes no statement on God.

However, what it DOES do, in some instances, is debunk some of the fanciful 
stories that many people have associated with God for centuries. The best 
example is simply the creation story. Evolution says point blank, without a 
doubt, "we evolved from apes". This runs counter to Genesis.

I think that these people take science's disproving of a HUMAN generated 
story about God, as an attack on God himself.
