We have lost 6000+ people and billions of dollars in a war with him and killed almost none of his soldiers, though we are killing the people of Afghanistan, either directly in attacks or indirectly through the food problems and exodus there.
Sadly, these people probably have no idea why the US is attacking their country, but I bet they are pissed and some young men, with no future other than being a farmer or unskilled worker, are making fine recruits for bin Laden or the Taliban. If we can demonize them, I bet they can far better demonize us. And it costs them a lot less than us.
