I should've said "major source". From what I've read it's relatively easy to determine major sources of atmospheric CO^2 and every country in the world except the USA is convinced the major source is humans and this major source is causing global warming. I find it odd that you would, therefore, think that humans aren't having a disproportionate effect on global climate. If large CO^2 emissions are causing global warming and humans are the source of those large emissions then any climatic effects caused would be the fault of humans. Whether this will cause our eradication, who knows? I think it's quite likely that it could kill 50% of people on the planet if, say, the Atlantic current stopped flowing. The Department of Defense actually put that number forward under one of their global warming scenarios. As to what kills off life on the likely few worlds that support it, it's been thought that gamma ray bursts from stars collapsing into black holes are the culprit. Humans can probably survive a crazy climate - even maybe colonizing new worlds. We couldn't survive a gamma ray burst from a nearby black hole, however.
