As far a appreciation - you do what it takes to get the job done. When the job is complete - then you re-examine the rules. I don't wish civil liberties to be lost - but a lot of the problem we face today, are because people take civil liberties to the extreme. You protect your liberties - not by reducing the strength of those who protect you.
