That sounds great. Like the (help me here people, >85 people?) on death row that have been found innocent because the system is so messed up. How many are dead that were innocent. Re-examine the rules. Man. Let's see, someone in this group phones in an anonymous tip, maybe even sends in some of my (sound bited) emails. The FBI watch my family drive away to work one day. They go in, poke around, find my silver boxer shorts, an AR-15 in the gun safe, Ruger P-89 pistol, bunch of old swords, a toy machine gun my dad made for me as a child, my old BDUs from my AF days, etc. Then they snoop my email. Whoa, look at this non-conformist, subversive type. Left wing radical. Totally disregarding the first, second, fourth and fifth amendments (did I miss anything?). Of course, the news gets leaked this and FOX News shows a bunch of FBI guys carrying out my "arsenal" of weapons, my computer used to subvert the government, etc. Sheriffs deputies show up at my place of employment (conveniently with a CNN news team) and arrest me, all nice and friendly like. Now the nasty part starts. My job is in the dumps. I go to court and begin to spend large sums of money defending myself against these baseless accusations. Finally I get off. The government does not even apologize. I have a $190,000 lawyer bill. The media has forgotten me, so they never come out and say, "Oh, that reporting we did, that was a huge foul up on our part, our credibility is, um, just not there." You get the picture. Where does it go from here? What the hell was the Revolutionary War for. I recall it had a reason for happening. "...get the job done." I bet Hitler said those exact same words to Goebbels. I know he did to Himmler. -Gary > > I don't wish civil liberties to be lost - but a lot of the problem we face > today, are because people take civil liberties to the extreme. How can you take a civil liberty to the extreme? Good God man. > > You protect your liberties - not by reducing the strength of those who > protect you. > But instead, by ensuring that those who protect you - have the ability to > protect you. I wonder how many Germans and Jews bought into to that line as the Nazis came to power spouting super-patriotic, nationalist rhetoric. They can protect us. They just did not protect us. -Gary > > -----Original Message----- > From: Angel Stewart [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Saturday, November 10, 2001 9:34 AM > To: CF-Community > Subject: RE: U.S. Will Monitor Calls to Lawyers > > > I do live in a third world country! > > ROFLMAOPIP! > > And what does appreciating the freedoms you have, got to do with > appreciating the freedoms that are being taken away or stamped upon in > the name of....what.."National Security" , which is incidentally what > myself and the previous posters were alluding to? > > -Gel > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Pierre Demester [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > > In my opinion, you need to live for a long duration in a 3rd world > country... maybe then, you would appreciate the freedoms we have in this > country. > > -----Original Message----- > From: Angel Stewart [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > > > Isn't this what I've been saying all along? > > Ashcroft and his interest groups have been wanting to pass draconian > laws such as these for some time now. > > September 11th gave them their excuse.
