You need to read Pegasus Bridge by Stephen Ambrose. In it he outlines how most likely the success of D-Day came down to a French couple in the Resistance and a squadron of British glider troops. The glider troops were the first Allies to hit the ground on D-Day and they secured a key bridge which prevented the German Panzers from getting to the beaches. Had this not happened, most likely the Panzers would've wiped out the invasion force. The British were able to pull off capturing of a bridge in the middle of enemy territory with a handful troops solely because of a courageous French couple who risked their lives, and the lives of their children, to get information to the British. Further, America wouldn't exist had France not sent Rochambeau, Layafette, de Grasse along with money, troops, weapons, and ships that forced a British surrender at Yorktown, setting up America to win the Revolutionary War. So before you pat yourself on the back for your hard work in WWII, remember that France gave you everything you have and probably were decisive in the allied victory in Europe during WWII. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:143603 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
