The salient point is that NPR has a stated goal of delivering unbiased
news and a multitude of views and is backing that goal up with an
Ombudsman that reports directly to the CEO and is appointed for a
term.

If you ever hear anything on NPR that you think is biased you can
contact the Ombudsman who'll makes the changes if needed.

I don't see any other major media sources doing this.  Not only do
they have him available, but they have him on programs about once a
quarter so  can call him on air.
