FWIW one of the primary grapes in Bordeaux wines is Merlot.

Another of the types of wines from the winery I mentioned earlier is a
Merlot (probably going to be tasting that too this weekend).

Generally in France Merlot is used as a blending grape, you won't tend
to find it by itself like you can from California or Washington, but
it is available.
