> When in a wine region always buy the local stuff. No sulfites.
ermmm... not to quibble, but all wine contains sulfites. More are
added during fermentation, but sulfites naturally occurin grapes.
The labelling as such ("Contains Sulfites") is contingent upon PPM of
sulfites and is a federal requirement, over a certain amount, label,
under, no label. There are also varying degrees of what one can sell
from the winery and how it can be labelled. There are also a number of
state regs that must be adhered to. I once watched a vintner have a
coniption (sp?) because somebody noticed that the name of the town
where his winery was had been misspelled on the label. Though the Feds
and state had both approved the label (with the mistake) he could have
been fined heavily for it.
> Washington state wine.
WA State wine *is* very good (my local appelation!!). not much is
available nationally, but big production houses are Covey Run, Chateau
St. Michelle, and Columbia.
Some of the smaller wineries that might be available in NY might be
Owen Sullivan and Matthews. mmmm... good stuff!
