During the presidential campaign last Fall, the press uncovered a truly weird story. Sandy Berger, Bill Clinton's former National Security Advisor, had been caught trying to abscond with top secret documents from the National Archives in Washington, DC. The weird part wasn't the act itself, but the allegation that he stuffed documents in his socks and even in his pants in order to hide them from Archives staff.
The Democrats pooh-poohed the whole notion of Sandy Berger being a thief as ridiculous. Well, it turns out the press was right: http://tinyurl.com/6p3h4 (the link is for a NYT article, you might need to login...) Berger has apparently agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanor charges. He will give up his security clearance for three years and pay a $10,000 fine. Why isn't this story getting any press? Terri Schiavo's sad story, and now the Pope's grave illness, have been dominating the headlines for days now. But here we have a former top White House official stealing top secret documents from the Federal Government, and the story can't seem to get any play whatsoever. Maybe tomorrow. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Stay Ahead of Hackers - Download ZoneAlarm Pro http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=65 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:152480 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
