My friend with the Jetta wagon gets 45/55 reliably (he's super Green). For every 500 miles of city driving he puts in 11.2 gallons of diesel from Holiday ( http://www.blueplanetgas.com/default_largestationstore.htm ) which blends it for the season. For me, the only argument I can see for these cars is to show a market for Green cars and thus hopefully encourage a truly green car.
