well gee, why should I have to? It's the usual prejudice that gets
trotted out, and there are any number of studies out there if you are
really interested. It's something that gets answered over and over on
the homeschool lists, kind of like is CF better than .NET. But here's
*my* personal experience.

I homeschool two kids and let's see, my daughter is 12 and her best
friends are aged 8, 13 and 25. Social studies? She volunteered for the
local Kerry campaign, which used her as a runner, allowing her to make
friends with people from all over the country and three foreign
countries as well. She goes swimming with the teen group on Tuesdays,
and to the "school-age" play group on Fridays and plays chess with an
archaeology professor at UNM. Not to mention Sunday school.
Socialization is soooooooooooooooo not her issue.

Similarly my son is 14 and works (for a paycheck) as a mentor at a
local art studio, where he teaches people pottery and helps work out
any squabbles that develop -- since it's open to anyone including
street people, there is a very wide continuum of social skills and
artistic abilities. He's also the neighborhood skateboard and X-box
guru. He also has friends who are in grade school, mostly kids he
shows computer stuff to, and adult friends from the art studio. So
while he's the introvert as opposed to his outgoing sister, he's not
exactly a sheltered unsocialized loner either.

Nor have I noticed any sort of social handicap in our homeschooled
list member...
