Quandry time...

I currently subscribe to DirecTV...pretty much because I want the NFL
Sunday Ticket (I'm a Giants fan living outside of the NY area). When
we moved to FL back in Jan, there was little to no debate in my head,
because DirecTV is the only "player" with the Sunday Ticket.

Well, since then, we've picked up a nice lil' HD ready TV. So I'm
looking at what it's going to take to get an HD signal to it. Through
DirecTV, I'd have to buy a new receiver which would cost $750 (we also
have TiVO through directv, and their TiVO/HD receiver is $750). They
offer no option to rent the equipment...it has to be an outright
purchase (and FWIW, they offered it to me for $500 when I suggested
that I was considering switching). So I'm looking at $500 for the
receiver and paying roughly $65 a month for programming (we get pretty
much everything but the premium movie channels).

Now, since I've got Comcast Internet, I figure let me see what they
charge for HD service/receiver.

Right now they have a promotion (actually, on ongoing promotion) where
they'll offer satellite customers the following:

HD Receiver
TiVo
HBO/Showtime/Starz

$30 a month for 12 months (after that, $80.95/month).

So it seems like a no-brainer. It'll cost a few bucks to terminate my
directv contract, but I'll save $30 a month for the next 12 months
which will make up for it. And after the promotion ends, I'll still
be paying just a few $ more a month for programming than I'm paying
direcTV now (if I drop the premium movie channels, it'd be about the
same price).

Aside from losing the Sunday Ticket (dammit, I guess I'll just have to
go to a bar to watch the games), which would have cost me an
additional $200+ anyway...can anybody offer up any advice? Am I
missing something? The comparison seems -so- ridiculously one-sided
that I'm really afraid I'm overlooking something. Anybody make the
switch from comcast (or any other cable company) to DirecTV or
vice-versa that can offer up any feedback?
