Sarcasm noted Mike. But one thing that I think is most important in Iraq and Afghanistan is the hearts and minds campaign, as with any insurgency. From everything I've seen about Iraq, the US forces have not done a good job of it in central Iraq. One thing I did read somewhere is that British controlled region is fairly quiet, and that the locals prefer the British to the Americans - because in their eyes the British forces are very respectful while the US forces are more likely to shoot first and ask questions later. I've heard similar things stated about comparisons between the US experience in Vietnam and the British experience in Malaysia. Whether its true or not, the problem is that the perception is extremely important in a counter-insurgency campaign.
