um, I am a business, licensed and tax paying. From what I see in the local (Republican mind you) newspaper, I may pay more taxes in New Mexico than Wal-Mart or McDonald's. So I am not spending other people's money thankyouverymuch. I don't have another employee yet, but I intend to get there. As for worthless skills, if they are so worthless why are the jobs there at all right now? I think we need to define "worth." I mean, if the job does not need to be done why pay anyone *anything*? If it's worth doing at all why not do it right? I am not clear on where you live exactly but let me explain to you where we are here. The current city administration has been chasing manufacturing jobs, large-scale enterprises, by issuing bonds to subsidize relocation and offering tax incentives. There has been a pattern of such large employers leaving town when the incentives run out, leaving the city holding the bonds, and relocating to another location offering similar incentives. Excuse me, but this type of economic development is not neutral in its effects on the city budget. The city is paying these businesses to come here. It is competing for them to do so. I do not think my city should be competing on the basis of how low its wages are. Again, I am talking economics and you are talking emotion. If you don't understand what I am talking about, well, The Division of Labor was written before the Industrial Revolution. Try reading up on somebody a little more last-century: http://www.time.com/time/time100/scientist/profile/keynes.html Dana PS - here's a definition of the multiplier effect. http://www.bartleby.com/59/18/multiplieref.html On 9/26/05, Gruss Gott <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Dana wrote: > > First of all, I am *not* advocating throwing money at people.
