Yes. A letter to George will get you throw in debtor's prison.
I had a problem with a part I ordered from Compaq. I called about a million
phone numbers trying to order a new power supply for a desktop computer. I
received a new PS for a laptop. I called back numerous times, only to be
told that since it had been more than 14 days since I received it, they
couldn't take it back. Keep in mind that I had been trying to FIND the
right place to call for more than 14 days since there was no documentation
in the box.
I ended up writing a letter to the Pres of Compaq. He had a personal
representative call me to straighten out the mess.
Another time, about 12 years ago, I went to Walmart ("Satisfaction
Guaranteed") and purchased some items for wrapping Christmas presents. I
got home and realized that they had left out the tissue paper from my bag -
a $1.29 item. I'd paid for it, and it was on the receipt, just not in any
of my bags. Additionally, I lived about 25 miles from the store.
I called the manager of Walmart and told him that I wanted him to send
someone to my house with the tissue paper since I was not going to drive 25
miles back there to get something I had paid for and was left out by the
clerk. He resisted, but when I asked him for the district manager's phone
number, he sent someone out to my house with my item.
It's all about being tough.
