iTunes supports plug-ins and there's one that was originally developed for
people using mIRC to announce what they were listening to on their Winamp.
Now there's an iTunes version and it apparently has MSN Messenger
integration. I use it for mIRC but don't know how it works for Messenger.

There's a plug-in and then there's a separate configurator that you might
want to grab too. Even if you can't get the automated integration working,
it supports quick key commands like so:
