I really don't send yours to the Commie Pinko folder. I was just being funny!!
I'm glad that you caught my follow up. I get phone calls and people asking me about why their e-mails are not working (like I should know) and I get interrupted and I wasn't paying attention when I hit send. When it posted I was embarrassed because it really sounded like I was ripping you apart and that wasn't what I was trying to do. At some point in the e-mail I had meant to state that, but I failed to do so. I really do respect your opinion. I know it to be an informed one and one that is based of something substantive and not 'I think' or 'I feel' because those are too easy. I enjoy a good debate, especially with people who have something to say and can back it up. I feel better now that I know you understand. I was afraid that you would take it personally and I did not want that at all. Now, let the mudslinging resume ;-) You smell worse than Larry! Dear CF-Community, But starting with Michael, then Larry and finally with Howie (because he originated this post). Michael, thanks for you're late note. You've saved yourself probably a lot of effort (and time) responding to a scathing response I would have written following your earlier comments, had you not reverse tracked (or may its a ploy ;-). Anyway, the point is we should resist the temptation where ever possible to resort to personal attacks. In may cases this 'attacks' may be the result of a simple misinterpretation as is often possible with the limiting nature of text messages. We should also keep an open mind even if people comments can sometime result in us pulling our hair out in frustration. My involvement on this board is perhaps a reflection of the diversity and ability of people to relate AND disagree without a complete break down. After all, most of my posts are controversial, but they do get us talking which should be seen as good healthy discussion... There is no doubt that many of us have strong (even extreme) political opinions. These opinions range for the left to the centre and over to the right. This should not, and I think does not, prevent us from discussing our ideas in an open forum. Each of our positions are no less valid because of our political leaning. My believe is that we are mostly a constitution of our experiences. These experiences is unique to each other and inform our daily discussions. One thing I have tried to do more often is explain my points more clearly. I've learn that this is critical to avoiding flame wars. It's also a benefit to me as my ideas are put forth in a clearer and more composed manner. Over time, I've come to see more of the character of people of this board and this helps to understand their posts with greater clarity. Larry, in an earlier post you referred to me as a troll. No one is stopping you from saying this, but I must confess I believe you are hijacking this word to further your own arguments. This is unfair as people who might come in mid conversation don't see the origins of the posts or the reasons for the accusation (if ever this was one). I've said this before. If you 'just can't stand' my post, just ignore them, but don't resort to making personal attacks. It's way uncool. Just set-up a message rule that diverts my posts to the deleted folder. No harm done... we save a lot of time and effort. I think Michael sends my posts to the 'Commie Pinko' folder...why don't you set up a folder called 'trolls' if you really believe that's what I am, and redirect my messages to there (of course you could be creative like Michael and call it something else). And finally Howie. It's probably too little too late, but I must say, all that my post concerning the issues you raised were intended only to illustrate that I (read: me, myself. An Individual) believe we should be thoughtful about people who experience these world events first hand. That there is a great cultural divide between westerners and people in Afghanistan. That when we are giving the opportunity to hear in their own words what it is like, we should not be judgemental and try and look at things from their perspective. That is all. One day I'll collect them all and make a sig file. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "CF-Community" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, December 18, 2001 4:53 AM Subject: Re: I'll never understand... > Wow, I just re-read what I wrote and I really came off sounding like an > ass. > > Benjamin, I did not mean to imply that you are ignorant.
