An interesting take on this threat - my mom is working against a peice
of legislation in the Oklahoma house that would make hiring illegals a
felony and refuse public services to illegals. Her reason against
it is because of it's "zero tolerance" stance where she points out
that there are many "undoccumented" aliens (the new PC term... blech)
that provide a great deal to society including paying taxes, buying
goods and services and participating in the general public good.

Her "excuse" (yes, I'll use that word for her explanation) why these
upstanding citizens are here illegally is because of the bureaucratic
red tape that prospective immigrants have to go through... so I'll ask
this question since I know of at least two (probably many more)
members of the list, how difficult is it to get a green card to come
in to the US, work, learn and live? Is there a difference if your
country of origin is Mexico than Canada, England, etc?

I guess my point is this - the main way people have been talking about
dealing with illegals is to get them out of the country. Personally I
agree with that stance wholeheartedly. However if there is a
bureaucratic system in place that is keeping people from other
countries out even though they have the desire and the ability to
learn, work and contribute then that system needs to be investigated.

What me might be looking at is a case where enforcement and
provisioning both need to be addressed.
