It is a little surprising to me that the article does not deal with what I think is the root issue here- that the Islamic world is in the middle of a religious civil war, with one side seeking a full return to the literalist interpretation of the Koran, and the other side seeking to push a modernized version of Islam that does not adhere to the literalist interpretation of the Koran.
The literalist (fundamentalist) movement is winning in most of the Islamic world, whatever CAIR has to say about the matter. The equivalent in the West would be a return to the Crusades, with the Catholic Church advocating a religious war against the Islamic world. Imagine what CAIR would have to say about that.
