Microsoft created it for Mac to test because they didn't have a graphical interface yet. Which means it wasn't how Apple started out. By 1985 Mac already lost the market because of price, selling toaster but charging for convection ovens :)
Word sucked, still does, the only way they got rid of WP was to bundle word into office.
