Wow - I'm on the totally opposite side.  I don't think religion does a
thing to keep people "moral"; especially because it's not compulsory!
The only people who go to church are volunteers - After all, we live
in a secular society.  We could totally eliminate religion and it
wouldn't change a thing (except maybe prevent a few murders, child
rapes, etc.)

Religion provides only 2 things:

1.) Comfort when pondering one's purpose in infinity.
2.) Culture.

Jesse Ventura once famously said that religion was for the weak minded
- maybe.  And I know that it adds a lot to many people's lives.  But
from where I sit: God, please protect me from your followers.
