I would simply caution against equating spirituality (a faith in a "higher power" or "universal meaning" or "connectedness with others") with religion. I'm a proud atheist. I often feel the lure of spiritual thinking but never feel a pang at the loss of religion from my life. Don't take as approval of religion bashing on my part however. I'm quite happy allowing people to may their own decisions on that score. I'm just reacting to the idea that organized religion is the seat of supernatural faith. I don't think it is for the simple fact that these supernatural beliefs came before religion (and appear to superseding them again).
