What was said was that Israel initiated the Convential War. And they did. A terrorist organisation crossed the border and kidnapped Israeli soldiers. Of course the other side claims that Israel was carrying out operations on ITS side of the border and there was a skirmish and the two soldiers were captured.
In response to this, Israel started a conventional war. There were several responses to this act, Israel chose War. So yes, Israel did start the conventional war. ANd they did commence with the destruction of a sovereign country and a member of the UN. And yes they have steadfastly refused to obey any Ceasefire order from the UN. A question to you: How many UN resolutions that have been against Israeli Actions has the United States Vetoed over the last decade?
