The "God of the Gaps" argument is persuasive... but also dangerous as it's
often used for very small gaps.

Creationists, for example demand to see the "missing link" in the fossil
record announcing stridently that the lack of them (in their definition of
course) "proves" that evolution is a false concept.

In other words all gaps in our understanding of the natural world (whether
real or imagined) are used as undeniable proof of God.

There are definite, fabulous, mind-altering mysteries in every field of
endeavor.  But so far none have required the existence of an omnipotent
creator.
