Well, I should say accept.  Catholicism doesn't say, "well, we're
fairly certain we're right, but those Lutherans may have something

Sort of.  Theoretical physics is just that, theoretical.  That is, the
truth is certainly not attainable anytime soon.  In this way it's like
the second coming of Christ: it may happen tomorrow, it may not happen
for a millennia.

If it doesn't happen tomorrow, then both Christianity and theoretical
physics need to come up with framework that's a best guess in the
absence of empirical data.

If we find a grand unification theory tomorrow, well it's the ultimate
physical truth.  If the rapture happens tomorrow, then Christianity is
the ultimate metaphysical truth.

In the meantime they're both just philosophies.
