Well the point is, let's say he'd memorized all of that content rather
than written it down for reference. He'd have still failed because it
wasn't the content that was key, but how to use it,l and he failed
because he didn't know that.

The point being that if you memorize techniques and tools, that can be
learning - IF you know how to use them and, therefore, how they came
to be.
