A Fortune 500 company I know was doing this on 12,000 Macs globally
since os7 I believe. Anyway, 3 guys managed the whole thing plus a
whole slew of mac servers.

Well, of course, the IT department stepped and decided to "bullet
proof" it by switching to Windows. The 3 person team is now 36 people
and the mission critical apps that were supposed to be migrated 7
years ago still aren't. Since switching to PCs they continue to
struggle with uptime and numerous times have brought in Microsoft.

In the meantime a new group has sprouted and is supporting ~6000
desktops. Their management group is 4 people and their uptime is near
99.9%.

The biz owner has is pushing to move all the PCs back to Macs.
