"Humans are capable of reason, of applying what we call "common sense".
Universities should be able to decide what they consider to be reasonable in
a classroom setting, and what they consider to be "hateful" or unnecessary
indoctrination. Professors at that university should be held to that
standard by the school, and reprimanded as necessary when they are deemed to
have violated those standards."

Thank you. That is the point I have been arguing all along. The
Universities should be able to decide what is reasonable. The problem
is that they are not. In order to make the universities do their job,
there is a nice stick. It is called funding. The part about the bomb
was hyperbole by the way. I don't believe that.

"As a prospective student, you should be aware of these standards and take
them into consideration when selecting a school."

It theory yes. In practice no. A single mother whose only affordable
option is the local university doesn't have to consider a lot. She
wants the college degree that will help her get a better job. She
doesn't give a damn about what is being taught or not. Does that make
it okay for some professor to neglect their job? In my humble
opinion, no it does not make it right. Also, that single mother
will probably not be able to afford a lawyer if she would like to take
the school/professor to court.

"For me, hate speech is advocating something illegal for no other
reason that race, color, sex, looks, or ethnicity."

"If someone seriously advocates physical violence against another
simply due to race, religion, sex, ethnicity, or another arbitrary
grouping it's probably just a matter of time before they commit that
crime."

Who is stepping on freedom now. Hell, a lot rappers would be thrown
in jail today because they advocate violence against Jews and
homosexuals. There are a lot of Imam's in this country that advocate
violence against Israel. In the 1960's, the Black Panters advocated
violence against whites. Also, what if you don't advocate physical
violence but advocate higher prices, no service, verbal abuse, etc.?

"1.) Prof doesn't teach the class. Tort law, as well as school
policy, already cover this."

School policy is the problem. Most schools don't give a damn as long
as the funding continues to roll in. Again, John Edwards smiles at
your desire for more lawsuits.

"2.) Prof doesn't teach the class and advocates illegal acts. Tort
law and criminal law already cover this."

Sure, you keep thinking that. The world will become a bright and sunny place.

"BOTTOM LINE: No need for new laws shown."

Ahh. It doesn't have to be a law that makes reform. Funding works
just a well. As much as you like tort, it seems like you would want
more laws. Personally, I don't give a damn how the do it. I just
would like to see something done.

"But I get it, you want more government."

You like putting words in peoples mouths. I want smaller government.
At no point does wanting people to do the job they are paid to do
indicate I want more government. If the goverment were less involved
this probably wouldn't be a problem. The layers upon layers of
beuracracy provide insulation for these idiots.

"You vote for Edwards, cause he's your big government candidate, and I'll prolly
vote for Giuliani, cause he's the small gov't candidate."

I wouldn't vote for Edwards if he were the only candidate. He does
seem to be someone you would like though since you are for tort action
so much. That is right up his ally. Same for Hilary. I probably
won't vote for Giulani either. I don't much trust him. If the
Libertarians can put up a decent candidate I'll probably vote for him
(or her).

"So we disagree, big deal."

No big deal. You can continue to believe college faculty at public
universities should not be accountable for their actions on the job
while I think they should. In the end my opinion and your opinion
mean nothing to the whole scheme of things.
