Focus on goals, not hours. What will you complete today? Now do it. If that means knocking off a level of "Ratchet and Clank" and working a little after the kids go to bed, so be it. Make sure that your goals are comparable to (but not more than) what you would complete in the office. If you're worried about your performance - ask your manager if they've got a problem. If anything make yourself more available at home than you are in the office: IM, phone, cell, email, etc - make sure everybody that you work with knows your availability and be honest about it. If you're going to be gone for 20 minutes at 2:30 to pick up the kids from school, let everybody know. It may seem minor but it greatly reduces that "I'm getting away with something" guilt. Set some rules at home. At the very least give your family a signal when it's "do not disturb" (this is easier with a closed office, but I hate that - if you're going to cloister yourself in a room you might as well go into an office). When you're on a call or meeting everybody should know to back off for a bit. Enjoy yourself - work in your PJs. Stock the fridge with your favorites. Put on your favorite music. Whatever you need to get your work done while also reducing stress. That nagging feeling of "I'm playing hooky" never really completely goes away, but after a while there's just no stress about it. ;^) Jim Davis ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Create robust enterprise, web RIAs.
