That's fantastic everyone! Well done!

Charles' doc wanted to put him on blood sugar meds last month, even though
his sugar tested only 10 points over the norm ... and we said no way jose.
We'll change his diet first. So that's when we cut out all the sugar and
refined flour foods. Whole grains only, brown rice, lean meats, chicken,
fish, shrimp. More veggies. Fresh or frozen. Pure proteins. Nothing canned
except for some Vienna Sausages as a treat since they have no sugar. Low
sodium of course.

Not only have we both lost weight just from that, him 11lbs and me another
6lbs, but his blood pressure is WAYYYY lower back in the normal range. Mine
was never high, but usually it was 120/70, now I'm 107/64.

We use a lot of garlic (healthy heart stuff, probably accounts for the blood
pressure drop) in our foods, no butter, just Smart Balance, olive oils,
flaxseed oil, fresh ginger in marinades, etc. Learning a lot about spices
and how they are good for you and which ones do what.

We do a lot of stretching and toning stuff before bedtime. Combo yoga/situps
and my favorite guy Chicometrics. :) Remember him ;) THAT has been helping
our golf swing and other things....

I really hate pharmaceuticals that just treat symptoms and not the cause.
Doctors just want to make money and prescribe these drugs without taking
into account the affect some of them have. And I'm just talking about
cholesterol/sugar/blood pressure stuff. Not mental therapy or things like
synthroid. If we take care of our bodies better, a lot of this is
reversible. Obviously there's probably people that a change in diet wouldn't
help them, but damn if doctors don't even try! AND there's so many natural
alternatives that treat some of these symptoms BETTER without all the side
affects! You should read the side affects Glucophage alone has! Let alone
other things like prostate medicines! If any of ya ever have any problems
there, I can forward LOTS of inifo about that to take to your doctors.

I read a great thing a couple of weeks ago. People expect their doctors to
know everything, but they don't. Especially general practitioners... some
are better than others, so no offense to anyone's relatives (Adam, yours are
the best!!!!), but the majority see you for 15 minutes and move on to the
next. It's very impersonal for the majority, especially with the way our
current insurance is structured. So only one person knows WHAT your body
does, HOW it reacts to things and WHEN you feel a certain way. YOU live in
your body every day, you are the expert on it. If a doctor prescribes you
one thing, and does test and those test say you're normal, but you still
feel bad or off, then guess what! The doc might of been wrong! But people
never take the time or care about second opinions, or trying to do research,
etc.

If I never took my Thyroid coondition into my own hands, I would never of
finally got it straightened out, because the doctors kept running the wrong
tests. And mostly it's because of what they are taught as GENERAL
PRACTITIONERS in med school. Synthroid has been out for so many years, it's
like a standard along to go with the standard tests, but there's OTHER more
important tests that need to be done, other drugs to prescribe, and the
majority of doctors don't know it. And it's hard to get a referral to a
specialist when the doc says hey, there's nothing wrong!

So ALWAYS ALWAYS double check the doc. It's your life in his hands. ;)
