As a side note, throughout all of recorded history there has been belief in magic. Every person who has been a practitioner of magic has believed in God(s). It goes part and parcel. I came into strong faith through study of magic and let me tell you, if you do it you see that there's some structure, some guiding force out there. It was good enough for me but I don't expect it to be good enough for you. The only thing you can do is question and see where the answers take you. I don't want the above to sound like a cop-out but faith is a personal thing. Religion may be a community experience but the faith that goes with it must be your own. People tend to forget this and the result is that their children do not share their faith and as a result turn away from their religion. Modern society does not try to teach faith nor does it really 'approve' of those who seek it. An event that would normally confirm someones faith is instead joked about or 'explained away' instead. This results in more and more people turning away from the faiths of their parents. But when they feel a need for faith, a need for the spiritual, they seek it out but have been turned off from what their parents have done. Many go to 'alternative' religions which are now almost mainstream. Others may go to an extreme towards the religion of their parents or away from it. There's is a need in people to believe in something. Even those who believe in evolution despite its problems have faith; in evolution. Even atheists have faith. They believe that there is no God/spiritual/etc. and they they are 'free-er' then everyone else. The faith in God, the faith in science, the faith in nothing. It's all a needed part of humanity.
BTW, faith in one thing does not automatically preclude faith in something else. I believe that God created the world, science is explaining the physical construct of that world and magic explains the metaphysical construct of the same.
