Your tax dollars are decided by the people. The people elect the men and women we send to Congress and the White House. They decide the budget. That's how a republic works. This isn't a democracy, thank God.

I think the Budget should be decided by the people. When you fill out your income tax you should denote where you money should go. Military X% Education Y% Congressional Pay Raise 0% Muffins Z% There would be a page with a list of categories, you can attach a percentage to each, or divide it evenly, or have the government divide it for you. It would cause a little more work, but as things become more electronic, and we can just file online, these things will always be there. My full ideas would also give you more control over your money, you could manage your taxes much like you manage your stock portfolio. You can see how much you contribute, and where it is going. It would take a while, and is probably pretty unlikely, but I think it would be cool. It would also require a constitutional amendment.
