Carl's didn't merge with some other company.
"Carl" was Carl Karcher of Orange County in Southern California.
CKE Restaurants (Carl Karcher Enterprises) is still a separate company
(NYSE:CKR).

I think it's hilariously ironic that my family loved to go to Carl's because
they were the first to prohibit smoking, and you liked to go to Hardee's
(now operated by them) because they DID allow it.
