Congrats. My cat was not a stray per-se, was born under my home and lived there for the first year of his life before I took him in. He had a brother and a sister, but they did not make it out here in the desert. Fred survived his first year, so he is a keeper. I love Fred to death. He is a good companion and even though he does not understand me, I like talking to him.
The things that I bought him are: Feeder (holds about two weeks worth of food) Water container (holds about two weeks worth of water) Litter box Cuddle Cup (his little bed that sits on the end of my bed to sleep in) Scratching post Catnip for scratching post Treats Toys I let Fred roam the house all day. He uses the litter box (he is in there as I type this out) and pretty much sleeps all day. Occasionally he likes to go outside and roam around. The rule is that if he is not in the house by 10, he stays out all night. I suspect he hangs out under the house or hunts mice and other little creatures. Be prepared for him to bring you gifts. Fred likes to bring in a live bird and commence to chasing it all over the house, culminating with him killing and eating the bird. This is why I don't leave the cat door open all day anymore.
