Playa del Carmen is the town right across from Cozumel where the ferry docks and where all the day trips leave from (it's about 45 min. south of Cancun). Pretty boisterous ... lots of partying.
There are some fantastic resorts south of Playa del Carmen, though ... after one of our trips we stopped at nearly every single one to let people out ... they all looked sumptuous. Private beaches, spas, etc. I'd say you're golden staying at one of those as opposed to Cancun for some quiet relaxation. You may pay more, though. Check out Xcaret and Xel Ha, two ecological water parks where you can do the snorkeling thing (we went to Xel Ha ...
