I have often wondered about observing/not observing Kosher meals. What is the common penalty for those who break the rules? What is the eternal penalty for those who break the rules?
Is it the knowing breaking of the rules, or the breaking of them at all? (For example, what if you didn't know there was XX in the food, and you ate it, but you didn't ask?) (For example, what if you didn't know there was XX in the food, and you ate it, and you asked, and were told the wrong answer?) (For example, what if you knew there was XX in the food, but you didn't know it was on the list? like Ben's example below) (For example, what if you knew there was XX in the food, but were really hungry?) (For example, what if you knew there was XX in the food, but were literally starving?) I am sure there are different answers to these questions based on different beliefs, but is there a general "rul of thumb"?
