LOL! That's actually not the case by Federal Law. You can be salaried and still be entitled to overtime. The FLSA has certain criteria you must match to be out of the running for overtime.
Also - this was interesting - just because your employer gives you a title like "Supervisor or Manager" doesn't mean you are now not entitled to overtime. The federal law states it WHAT you do, not what you are called. And the federal law states the the job description must plainly state in exact terms what that employees duties are if they are exempt from being paid overtime. ALSO, if your employer gives you comp time in lieu of paid overtime ... it can't be hour for hour. It's an hour and half for every hour of overtime. Another one that many people get away with. I learned quite a lot this morning reading through the government Fair Labor site. A BUNCH of little things that the majority of people probably don't know. Like what qualifies as work, when and where, travel time, etc. Jacob was indeed correct... overtime is based on hours actually worked and does not include vacation, sick leave or holiday pay. I do not plan on hiring any employees, ever. I was just curious for a friend.
