What the hell are you talking about? The Senate is called the Millionaires Club for a reason. In most cases you already have to be quite wealthy before you get to run for national public office. Some of them are wealthy due to inheritance but a great deal of the people in Congress made a small fortune in business and then ran for Congress. That's how they achieved the bankroll and contact lists needed to run in the first place.
