Just as the disasters wreaked in capitalist economies have thoroughly
discredited all the ideas of Adam Smith?

Yes, Marx was an idealist. Those ideas were not workable in the form
he presented them. Same is true of Adam Smith. Governments have since
tried variations on the ideals of both with varying degrees of success
and varying definitions of success. I'd argue that overall, variations
on Smith's ideas have worked out a bit better than those based on
Marx. Both thinkers had valid points that serve well as
counter-balances to each other and should be kept in mind as we try
and chart the best possible course through changing circumstances.

No hyperbole needed.
