I'm sorry - and, yes, I'm going to be a prick about this - that's what
you're saying NOW.

You starting this saying that we couldn't make any such statements because
our data set was only 150 years old.  Then you asked about thermometers from
thousands of years ago.

You can't have it both ways: you can't tell us the research that tells us
about ancient trends supports is useless to support one position and then
cite it later as support for yours.  The two are mutually exclusive: if we
can determine that the trend is ancient and natural then we can also
determine that human activity may be having an impact.

Alternatively if the paucity of our data set cannot support human activity
as affective then it also cannot support ancient natural causes.

Again - I'm not arguing for either position here: I'm arguing that the
arguments being made are weak and contradictory.
