Meh, violence isn't that much of a threat in my opinion. I can
understand its appeal, certainly. But there is also that rebellious
part that comes up against it, the thrill of outwitting the man. I
have no problems letting people know that anyone hurts my daughter in
a serious fashion will find themselves in a sorry state. But that
doesn't require a big overbearing show. Few are likely to be the sort
to do that to your daughter and you do a better job if you help her
get to the point where she isn't involved with anyone like that.

My daughter is going to get her heart broken, she'll probably date
people I wish she wouldn't, I'll have to bite my tongue and go "as
long as you're happy dear" while she tests her boundaries. And when
the dudes in question disrespect her, I hope its her that knees them
in the nuts or laughs in their face and walks out the door. When she
loses someone that sucks for her but still makes her heart ache, I
hope she comes and has a beer with me and grumbles about the stupidity
of human frailty. And should she say "Papa, I need some help" then the
lead pipe and nitrile gloves may come out. But it really shouldn't
come to that.

They've got their lives, they are strong and powerful. Let them make
their mistakes even when it hurts to see it and know that they'll come
out stronger on the other end and glad that you are still there to
give them a hug when they've fucked up.
