I can appreciate that. And I agree that violence happens every day and
can happen at any time. I expect myself and other to be prepared to
deal with violence as needed. But I don't think it is usually a
terribly useful or desirable situation.

I was taught growing up to avoid violence if at all possible. I'm
really good at avoiding fights and I have no problems running away.
But I was also taught that if you can't avoid a fight...win. Period.
No honor, no rules, no pride, just fucking win. Make sure the other
guy is incapable of doing you harm any more. I don't understand
violence with rules. If things have devolved to the point where it is
time for violence then I don't give a shit about fairness.

I'm not naive about the prevalence of violence in the world. But I try
to avoid introducing it and hopefully thereby making things a bit more
mellow and happy. Sometimes violence is a necessity but I think it is
usually the result of a failure.
