how do you "lock them away" without drawing a box around them?
in theory, it's all very wonderful. in practice... not so much. there may
very well be a number of people willing to work together to turn the world
into a giant commune and all work together for the better good of society.
but there will always be a number of people who want more. they won't
respect the lack of borders or the "the needs of the many outweigh the needs
of the few, or the one" mentality. then you'll need a group to act as the
enforcers of the rules and make judgements as to whether or not 'individual
A' acted in his/her own self-interest as opposed to the interests of
society. now you've got the beginnings of government. you can call it a
"council of tribal leaders" or anything else you'd care to call it... but
it's government.

again, it's a wonderful pleasant thought. everybody working together in
harmony trying to attack the problems that plague us as a race (disease,
famine), and not attacking each other. but do you really believe that if
borders were to magically disappear tomorrow... that we'd all live in
harmony?

it'd be anarchy and it'd be ugly.
