I see your point Gel and I tend to feel the same way, but the parallels between drug/alcohol use and the use of prescription drugs is not quite the same. The difference, in my opinion, is the level of understanding of what the effects are. There are side effects to some of these things that people are not aware of or not identifying. In this case, at least 4 people share in the blame; The kid, the parents, and the doctor. I tend to hold the latter two more responsible. The doctor knew what the drugs could do and the parents knew their child. they should have seen any behavioral changes and intervened. The doctor needed to be following up and keeping tabs knowing what sort of side effects these things have. The kid, if he was experiencing adverse side effects, wouldn't be able to rationally judge his condition.
I agree that the ultimate responsibility is that kid. I'm wondering if the owners of that building are suing those parents? I think that they have a more legitimate complaint than the parents do. What about the organization(s) that was leasing that space at the time. I'm sure they suffered losses at the hand of that kid, I wonder if they are suing also. My guess would be no, but they would have an absolute right to. If he was high on Cocaine would it be the fault of the cocaine?!?? *HE* did this! And that is ALL there is to it. HE is responsible for this. Not television, not videogames, not music, not Accutataney or whatever it is. If you tell me that his mother is to blame for not taking him in for his checkup sto his doctor, or his doctor for not noting the signs and keeping proper track of him then yeah..maybe...but the manufacturers of the drug? Somebody just looking to make some money dude..that's all it is. Either the mother directly, or the lawyer behind her. -Gel -----Original Message----- From: Larry Lyons [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] The effects linger. Sort of what the explorer said to the witch doctor when he was finished the prescribed cure - the thong has ended but the malady lingers on. Now comes the really complicating part of something like this case. When you're depressed you get into an almost obsessional type of thinking. If this kid was pretty bad even after the withdrawal of the drug, if nothing else is done, the suicidal ideation doesn't stop, nor does the complete self-denigration - in other words your continually trashing yourself. It may get marginally better but the withdrawal of the Accutane did not necessary make the needed changes in the system. larry ______________________________________________________________________ Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists
