If it works then it should be able to pay for itself or get investors. If it
was deemed to be inefficient then maybe it wasn't worth it. Not all green
tech is worth the money.

> • A $246 million tax break for Hollywood movie producers to buy motion
> picture film. (not wasteful)

So the people who use film and make huge reams of cash on it want to get a
tax break on the item they (and only they) use. This is a bail out. I want a
tax break on buying software.

> • $650 million for the digital television converter box coupon

Opiate of the masses. If the masses don't have TV they may start reading,
thinking or listening to what people are saying.

> • $88 million for the Coast Guard to design a new polar icebreaker
> (arctic ship). (not wasteful)

According to Al Gore this is not needed as there are no polar ice caps
anymore or what's left will soon be gone.

> • $448 million for constructing the Department of Homeland Security
> headquarters. (not wasteful)

So the government is out of office space? I've got a ton of it waiting for
their use in NY.

> • $248 million for furniture at the new Homeland Security
> headquarters. (not wasteful)

That's a lot of chairs

> • $600 million to buy hybrid vehicles for federal employees. (not wasteful)

And in the process drive up the scarcity and price of these vehicles for
normal Americans. Vehicles made where? Detroit? Better add on another 50
million to allocate these types of vehicles to the proper people at the
proper locations.

> • $400 million for the Centers for Disease Control to screen and

Just say no. :)
(ok, this one is in no way pork)

> • $75 million for "smoking cessation activities." (wasteful)

Big time.

> • $75 million for salaries of employees at the FBI. (not wasteful)

Huh? Where does a standard line salary item come from?

> • $6 billion to turn federal buildings into "green" buildings. (not
> wasteful)

This one should be shuffled to another place. Green is nice, but unless the
building is a danger, it is a secondary item at the moment.

> • $1.2 billion for "youth activities," including youth summer job
> programs. (not wasteful)

This had better be VERY WELL DEFINED or else it is pork. And watch out for
the Europe problem where "youth activities" is usually riots by 'youths' of
a particular social/religious background (using the media term here). Maybe
its an anti-riot program!

> • $160 million for "paid volunteers" at the Corporation for National
> and Community Service. (not wasteful)

See above. What are these volunteers going to be doing?

• $5.5 million for "energy efficiency initiatives" at the Department
> of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration. (not wasteful)

Huh? I'm all for energy efficiency initiatives but for the national cemetery
administration? Corpses use that much electricity? This should either be
general to government agencies or made very specific as to its terms

• $850 million for Amtrak. (not wasteful)

Bail out

> • $100 million for reducing the hazard of lead-based paint. (not wasteful)

Still?

> • $110 million to the Farm Service Agency to upgrade computer systems.
> (not wasteful)

For 110 million, I'll rewrite their whole system using ColdFusion. Hell, I'd
hire everyone here to help me.

> • $200 million in funding for the lease of alternative energy vehicles

Buy them. This wa
