Wow, you don't really know me at all. I know the 'dirt' intimately. I was raised on a farm in New Hampshire. I step away from the computer on a regular basis. Orthodox Jews (like me) don't use electronic devices for the 25 hours of a Sabbath day (like the next 2 days which are the final days of Passover). I don't even have electrical devices more advanced than a computer and a cell phone (out dated actually). I don't live in a fantasy world any more than anyone who watches TV (which I don't) or play video games (ditto). As for real worldish, Judith and I have 5 kids that we raise. Nothing is more real worldish than that.
Comics and the like are more standard than not in our area of work. Yes, you left it at 14 (which shows by your use of flying saucers, a rather old and outdated term) but that does not mean everyone has. Oh, and sometimes when I go out it's to meet socially with writers I know. SF writers, but they're still people. People with the same concerns of family, work and other real worldish things. My problem is that I care about the world and I'm too connected to it rather than the other way around. When I let go of the world more then I find I'm happier and get more work done. And besides all that, comics were a job for me. I was paid to organize them. I was paid to know what was happening, where, and when. Even though the paid part of my job is on hiatus due to the economy, I'm still in demand and I'm still respected for what I do and know. That's more real worldish than fantasy in my book.
