Judah, take a step back, you've lost the big picture:

(1.) Patients need care

(2.) Doctors, labs, pharma charge for their services

(3.) Corporations, insurance, or the gov't pay the bills.

Your argument is that if we change who pays the bills, it'll change
the costs. Of course not, which is why Obama doesn't even give that
shit the time of day.

To fix this monster we need to attack each level with a collaboration
between patients, providers, and administrators (incl gov't):

A.) Lower the care people need through preventative care, disease
management, and education (good ole healthy livin')

B.) Control costs and increase quality for doctors, labs, pharma
through IT and automation.

C.) Lower administrative costs (e.g., real-time adjudication)

Personally I'm a consumer-directed healthcare advocate:

* If you train and incent people to direct their own healthcare - and
give them day-to-day control of the money - they'll naturally drive
down provider costs without providers feeling they're being attacked:
good providers will be wealthy and bad providers will go broke.

* CDHC will contain coverage holes which will need a solution - which
is basically Medicaid, so that piece is already in place.

* Profit incentive given to people all through the care chain will
drive down administrative costs and foster innovation and investment.
