they gave me some strange-tasting thing that looked like a small slushie and watched me to make sure I drank it. I never did get an explanation of this; I was too out of it to ask at the time -- it didn't help that they gave me morphine to help me breathe, I am sure -- and afterwards I got some shrugs and some speculation about impaired breathing patterns.
But in your case it was almost certainly the diarrhea, so Gruss is right, a few bananas and a little attention to avoiding dehydration in future should fix you right up.
