And this is why I think a consumer directed w/ safety net system is the best: 1.) It allows you to keep your money; no IRS, no CMS, just you. 2.) Employers can still offer benefits just like a 401k but the plan stays with you, not them, and once you've got a lot of dough saved in there you could be unemployed for decades and still have perfect coverage. The retirement system already works like that. 3.) Doctors are penalized for poor service, bad recommendations, or unjustified costs. Best practices improve, good doctors make lots of money, bad doctors go out of business. 4.) The safety net protects you when you're young (or other) and don't have a big balance. But the beauty there is young people are almost free to the health care system. When you're old and need the care, you've got a lifetime of savings to cover deductibles. 5.) Your HSA allows you purchase locally grown healthy foods tax-free and encourages preventative care up front. We need to figure our a few key things: (1.) Prevent health costs in the first place through incenting healthy lifestyles. (2.) Perfect best practices (trouble shooting) and knowledge sharing amongst doctors to drive down unnecessary care. (3.) Provide consumers with the knowledge they need to pick efficient and effective doctors and hospitals. This is is a supply-side cost problem first, and a funding problem second ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Want to reach the ColdFusion community with something they want?
